Tumeric

#1

Has anyone tried using tumeric with CIDP? If so, have you been able to tell of it benefiting CIDP? I'm taking 40 mg of prednisone for 3 days around each IVIG infusion. I don't like taking the prednisone and was wondering if tumeric would help so I could come off of this. Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

A rigorously study this pdf and look for steroid related keywords and then dig into the Merek manual for turmeric's many complex organic chemical or modified derivatives .

I have been able to stay off high dose prednisone for 2 years now by correcting vitamin and mineral deficiencies with doctors help. I was taking a full dose of ivig every one or two weeks with methylprednisolone, and now it's a monthly and reduced dose of ivig. I use antioxidants too. But, what is good for me may not be for you because the underlying cause and fallout of cidp and variants are many and unique to us. I started very slowly with everything and did a lot of research before starting anything. There aren't many studies, if any, on supplements because blind studies are expensive. But there are ways to make trying any supplements, herbs and teas safer.

I haven't tried turmeric but remembered this post from a few years back.

I always cross reference supplements and herbs with Linus Pauling and National Institute of Health for dosing and interactions with other medications and health conditions.

There may be complications to be aware of from sulfites with herbs and teas

Pesticides can cause more problems than the herbs can benefit, always buy certified organic on herbs and teas

The best way to know what your getting is by eating it whole and juicing. Care should be taken in juicing too. It's easy to get too much of something. Dosage counts

Please let us know how it goes, I am interested to see if it helps you.

Great info mabes. However, most references you present are generalizations with no direct evidence that turmeric has any effect on demylinzation or axon action-potentials.. CIDP is only one thing: failed mV electrical signals to muscles. It is an either/or effector.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the failure in CIDP is a cascade of complex chemistry brought about by the failure of cellular recognition, demonstrated mostly by the T-cell to not recognize friend or foe cells. At the root of this is a genetic failure somewhere within this cascade of stem cell differentiations.

If a chemical within turmeric can change a genetic structure then indeed it may work. Then again, CIDP may be environmental, diet or be initiated by metaphysical causes or quandaries.

I will look for turmeric's effect on multiple sclerosis and ALS; the research for these disease may in some way mirror CIDP destruction because all are dealing with the mill-volt action potential from the lower neurons and chemical cascades.

Your reference was good too.

I didn't imply turmeric had an effect on demyelination. I don't even know if it helps with inflammation from collateral damage. There is collateral damage if standard medications don't prevent demyelination 100%. I only meant to say that I remembered an article from years ago, and to be cautious about taking supplements for the reasons that I stated. I do believe in fixing vitamin and mineral deficiencies and trying antioxidants in addition to standard medications to see if there is an improvement. I am a testament that it is a possibility.

I don't know what cidp is. There's an immune response. There are auto-antigens or antigens that have yet to be identified. As far as stem cells I read about a guy who had a stem cell transplant. All his mature immune cells, the ones with memory, were destroyed. The new cells, from his bone marrow were put back and the (cidp) immune response stopped. Until years later, he was in an accident and his cidp returned. The new cells behaved exactly like the previous mature cells that were destroyed. Even if t-cell faulty recognition is true it may only be a part of the truth.

The more I learn, the less I know.

Wow...the two of you have given me SO much to look at and I really appreciate this. My thoughts are in line with what Mabes posted as I am concerned about my vitamin and mineral counts. I have no idea if this would make any difference, but I want to really check out both sides of what both are you are saying. I will check out all of this before moving forward with anything. Thank you so much for all of your info!

My wife take turmeric extract ( Gaia herb turmeric or Life extension curcumin) with krill oil and they really help to improve her condition
