NEW HERE many questions

I am new here eager to learn how to deal with this dx.I think my symptoms began last summer finally diagnosed by sural nerve biopsy this month. any helpful comments? I am on Predinosone which does make me feel better but does not work well with my diabetes.

Hi CarolD,

I've had type 1 diabetes for nearly 48 years. During that time I needed to take prednisone for about one year to treat an autoimmune disease (immune thrombocytopenia purpura). During that time period I need twice as much insulin than I did previously. Although I've been off prednisone for about six years, I still need twice as much insulin. Prednisone also can cause many other side effects. Another medicine which many people take for CIDP is IVIG (intravenous immunoglobulin). I've been taking it for over a dozen years without any serious problems. However, depending on the necessary dosages, IVIG can easily cost 1000 times more than prednisone. My insurance company and I are spending over $200,000 per year on IVIG.

These are some things that you and your doctors will need to consider.

Best of luck,

Thank you for your information Jon.
